FAQ
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY APPOINTMENT?
Once we have established a time to meet, virtually or in person, I will send you an intake form, consent form and invoice to be paid prior to our appointment (if paying out of pocket).

During our appointment, we’ll start with a complete history of you and your baby, including your birth experience and if applicable, a breast exam. This gives me a good idea of any health history, lifestyle choices or anatomical abnormalities that could impact lactation.

Ideally, I would like to observe a feeding session, whether that is at the breast, chest, or bottle.
During the feeding session, if I feel it can be improved, I will give suggestions and tips.

Once we are done with the assessment we will develop a plan of care based on your needs and goals. I will send you a copy of this care plan and with your permission, fax it to your pediatrician.

Included with your consult is one week of text/ email support relating to the concerns/issues we discussed. I tend to follow up within 1-3 days depending on the situation. I always encourage you to call me if anything changes and keep me in the loop.

In the refrigerator for 4-8 days
-
Defrosted for 24 hours
-
In a standard freezer for 6 months

In a deep freezer for 12 months
For a Preterm Infant:
-
At room temperature for 1 hour

In the refrigerator for 48 hours
-
Defrosted for 24 hours

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
I now work with The Lactation Network; a lactation billing company and they may cover your consults depending on your insurance. I highly recommend checking your eligibility here to see if you qualify for FREE lactation care. Otherwise, I offer a fee for service. Check out my services page for pricing.

I do believe every parent is entitled to support so if you need assistance, please contact me so we can work together to help you and your tiny human.
WHEN SHOULD I SEE AN IBCLC?
There are many reasons to see an IBCLC and when in doubt always reach out. Never try to just "wait it out", the sooner you can be seen the better.

I suggest seeing an IBCLC prenatally to establish a relationship, ask any questions you have about breastfeeding, especially if you have had issues with previous children. Making sure they are on board with YOUR breastfeeding goals can really help get breastfeeding off to a good start. This should be part of the prenatal experience, just like finding an OB/Midwife and pediatrician.

A few reasons to see an IBCLC (not a complete list):
-
Prenatal breastfeeding education
-
Painful latch and breastfeeding
-
Breast refusal
-
Establishing and maintaining milk supply
-
Engorgement, plugged ducts, mastitis
-
Going back to work
-
Pumping and bottle feeding
-
Supplementation
-
Assessing oral restrictions
-
Relactation or induced lactation
-
Oversupply/ forceful letdown
-
Reassurance - we are here for you!
